The Main Elements of Cow Urine and Their Functions

Many useful elements have been found in urine. Some of them are as below :
Urea
Urea is a major element found in urine and is the end product of protein metabolism. It is strong antibacterial agent.

Uric acid
Uric acid is similar to Urea and has strong antibacterial properties. In addition it helps to control cancer-causing substances.

Minerals
Minerals from urine can be very easily reabsorbed as compared to those derived from food. Urine probably contains more different types of minerals than those derived from food. Urine becomes turbid if left alone for a while This is because when enzyme present in urine dissolve urea and change it into ammonia then urine becomes strongly alkaline making it difficult to dissolve rich minerals. Therefore stale urine looks turbid This does not mean that it has decayed Urine with a higher ammonical disorder content when applied to the skin plays an important role in beautifying it.

In ancient India, oxen and bulls were sacrificed to the gods and their meat was eaten. But even then the slaughter of milk-producing cows was prohibited. Verses of the Rigveda refer to the cow as Devi (goddess), identified with Aditi (mother of the gods) herself.
Even when meat-eating was permitted, the ancient Vedic scriptures encouraged vegetarianism. One scripture says, "There is no sin in eating meat... but abstention brings great rewards." (The Laws of Manu, V/56)
Later, in the spiritually fertile period that produced Jainism andBuddhism, Hindus stopped eating beef. This was mostly like for practical reasons as well as spiritual. It was expensive to slaughter an animal for religious rituals or for a guest, and the cow provided an abundance of important products, including milk, browned butter for lamps, and fuel from dried dung.
Some scholars believe the tradition came to Hinduism through the influence of strictly vegetarian Jainism. But the cow continued to be especially revered and protected among the animals of India.
By the early centuries AD, the cow was designated as the appropriate gift to the brahmans (high-caste priests) and it was soon said that to kill a cow is equal to killing a brahman. The importance of the pastoral element in the Krishna stories, particularly from the 10th century onward, further reinforced the sanctity of the cow.

Cow-Related Practices

The cow remains a protected animal in Hinduism today and Hindus do not eat beef. Most rural Indian families have at least one dairy cow, a gentle spirit who is often treated as a member of the family.
The five products (pancagavya) of the cow — milk, curds, ghee butter, urine and dung — are all used in puja (worship) as well as in rites of extreme penance. The milk of the family cow nourishes children as they grow up, and cow dung (gobar) is a major source of energy for households throughout India. Cow dung is sometimes among the materials used for a tilak - a ritual mark on the forehead. Most Indians do not share the western revulsion at cow excrement, but instead consider it an earthy and useful natural product.
Despite their sacred status, cows don't seem very appreciated in India. Visitors are often surprised to see them walking neglected around city streets, living on garbage from the gutters. But the cow is honored at least once a year, on Gopastami. On this "Cow Holiday," cows are washed and decorated in the temple and given offerings in the hope that her gifts of life will continue.

The Cow and Its Position in Indian Society

The cow has a long and cherished tradition in Hindu folklore and mythology that dates back to the Vedic period.  All cows are descended from the symbolic cow of supreme abundance, the celestial cow, KAMADHENU.  Possessing the face of a lovely woman and yielding to her master all the milk that he desired, Kamadhenu today is sculpted and painted throughout India.
Indians find it strange that their cows should be the great concern that they are to the rest of the world.  They also find it quite disgusting that others eat them.  And when Westerners point out that 335 million livestock in India are competing with people for food, the Indian smiles and shakes his head.  His patience usually comes to an end when someone suggests that those cows who no longer produce milk should, if not eaten, at least be killed for their hides.  In such cases a Hindu might point out that the cow is rarely referred to as an animal.  Usually it is reverently or tenderly called Mother Cow.  And it is not killed after its milk has dried up for much the same reason that you don't kill your dog when it begins to get old.  The slaughter of cows to an Indian ranks with the murder of any man.  In Indian mythology when the forces of Good save a population from destruction, they always save the women, children, and the cows.  Lord Krishna, one of the human forms of Vishnu, is associated with cows and is also known as Lord of the Cows.  Those who tend cows are promised special consideration, for the cow is the symbolic nourisher of the earth.
Living, I yield milk, butter and
     curd, to sustain mankind
My dung is as fuel used,
Also to wash floor and wall;
Or burnt, becomes the sacred ash
     on forehead,
When dead, of my skin are
     sandals made,
'Or the bellows at the blacksmith's
     furnace;
Of my bones are buttons made.....
but of what use are you, O Man?
For Indians, the above poem contains much truth.  An important relationship exists between man and cow in India.  Each is an absolute necessity for the existence of the other.  Livestock in India are divided between cattle and water buffalo, with cattle having about a two to one edge in numbers.  The water buffalo does much of the plowing but by no means all.  Castrated bulls and cows both are used as general beasts of burden.  When plowing and planting are necessary, Indians need a great number of these livestock.  Furthermore, cow dung has long been the chief fertilizer used in India.  Human waste is not used in India as it has been, for example, in China or Japan.  Thus the Indian faces a considerable dilemma.  His fields certainly need the fertilizer, yet traditionally he has cooked his rice and boiled his tea with dried dung.  It is estimated that Indians would have to mine and somehow set up distribution facilities for about 35 million tons of coal a year for fuel if dung were not available.  As a source of food for children, milk and milk by-products play a valuable role as a supplier of protein.  This is especially important when on considers that Indians are for the most part vegetarians.  When you add to the above the importance of leather goods and such traditional uses as urine for the ritual cleansing of kitchens, the particular importance of cows to Indians becomes more apparent.
This attitude, however, may be changing for some.  About 25% of India's hide production is from slaughtered cows.  Muslims in India do not share quite the same reverence for the cow and occasionally eat beef.  Scientific breeding of cattle for milk production is a part of many state-supported colleges and universities.  Major cities attempt to control the cows in congested downtown areas.  Bombay, Delhi, and Madras have all found the cow to be incompatible with the automobile. SADDHUS [holy men] and the Jan Sangh Party have both tried to force legislation in the past years to outlaw the killing of cows.  Riots in New Delhi and bitter arguments in the Indian parliament have taken place over this issue.  Can Indians continue to ignore cows as a source of protein?  Will the traditional Indian attitude toward the cow persist as India moves into the 21c?

COW PROTECTION---How can Hindu religious organisations felicitate those who never support & work for it?

COW PROTECTION---How can Hindu religious organisations felicitate those who never support & work for it?

COW PROTECTION-- What about the importance of cow in Vedas, and our DUTY towards it?
Read the wonderful verse from SamVeda --
" SADA(always) GAWO(cows) SUCHYO(pure) VISWADHAYAS(feed all)"
It means--
" Cows are always pure and cows feed all world".
The meaning of Vedic verses are very deep in nature and always right & relevent in all ages and everywhere. Vedic Sages had done great analysis and research over them and put forward the essence in the form of Upnishads ( various books of Vedas) and Gita ( further essence of Vedas and Upnishads).
Regarding PUNCHGAVYA( five products from cow i .e 1:milk2:curd3:clarified butter 4:cow dung and 5: cow urine,),a lot of research has also been done . Best results and effects of these 5 products have well been proved now.
Hindus well know about the importance and purity of cow and they should not need any of such clarifications.
All the clarifications are for non Hindus who are unaware of the facts about cow.
It is the duty of Hindus to try their best for the worldwide protection of cows. They should do it through persuasion and other means.
Not to speak of entire world, unfortunately even in India( country of their own) where they are in majority, cows are not protected.
It is so because many Hindus are carrying genes of Kansa,Ravan,Supnakha,Shakuni and Shishupal etc.and they have unfortunately grabbed key positions in India.
Some of them even don't hesitate to serve gomaans to guests.
Should we forgot Mangal Pandey and other forefathers and drag their souls to unrest.
If these evil minded( satanic) Hindus are allowed to dominate& not condemned, then further and final downfall and ruining of Hindus is certain to happen.
It is strange that many Hindu religious organizations( i, e. Sanatan Dharma, arya Samaj, Ramlila Committees etc) run after celebrities like Indian politicians who never vote for or work for cow protection in their field of activity (i.e. parliament or vidhan sabha) . They invite them as chief guests and felicitate them and so contribute towards the sin of cow slaughter.
We Hindus must ensure protection of cows and it will be definitely 1st step towards world peace.
You know! Cow is also a symbol of peace.

Hinduism, what is the importance of cow dung ,and why it is used in havans and homams ?

Dried cow dung is used in havans and homams. Because the cow eats only grass and dry paddy and other green leaves and pure water with vegetables. The cow did not eat non-veg items. so, the dried cow dung is used. Verses of the Rigveda refer to the cow as Devi (goddess), identified with Aditi (mother of the gods) herself. The cow continued to be especially revered and protected among the animals of India.

By the early centuries AD, the cow was designated as the appropriate gift to the brahmans (high-caste priests) and it was soon said that to kill a cow is equal to killing a brahman. Most Indians do not share the western revulsion at cow excrement, but instead consider it an earthy and useful natural product. Everything from a cow was used from their droppings to assistance with plowing the fields. The day-to-day work with the cow was much more important to the people's lives. Over time the private respect that each family had for this animal grew and became public and then became a part of the culture taking form in their religion. Today every part of the cow holds religious symbolism. For example the horns symbolize the Gods,

Why Hindus worship and give importance to the Cow only.?

Why Hindus worship and give importance to the Cow only.?

If so many animals that is living beings are there why hindus give importance to the cow.Is there any reason?
Hindus regard all living- creatures as sacred—mammals, fishes, birds and more. We acknowledge this reverence for life in our special affection for the cow. We do not worship her in the sense that we worship the Deity. To the Hindu, the cow symbolizes all other creatures. The cow is a symbol of the Earth, the nourisher, the ever-giving, un demanding provider. The cow represents life and the sustenance of life. The cow is so generous, taking nothing but water, grass and grain. It gives and gives and gives of its milk, as does the liberated soul give of his spiritual knowledge. The cow is so vital to life, the virtual sustainer of life, for many humans. The cow is a symbol of grace and abundance. Veneration of the cow instills in Hindus the virtues of gentleness, receptivity and connectedness with nature.

Some trace cow worship back to Lord Krishna, who is said to have first appeared as a cowherd and protector of cattle. Several other gods also lived for a time as cows, and the animals remain a powerful symbol of the religion.” (The Associated Press, May 14, 2005)

Although Hindus respect and honor the cow, they do not worship them in the same sense in which they worship God. Hindus considers all living things to be sacred, an attitude reflected in reverence for the cow.

In Hinduism, the cow is seen as a generous, ever-giving source, which takes nothing but that which is necessary for its own sustenance in return. Hindus treat the cow with the same respect accorded to the mother, as the cow is a vital sustainer of life, providing milk and a means of ploughing the earth to grow crops. The cow received such status as a result of the historical need of early agrarian Hindu civilization. The Rig Veda (4.28.1;6) recorded, “The cows have come and have brought us good fortune. In our stalls, contented may they stay! May they bring forth calves for us, many-colored, giving milk for Indra each day. You make, O cows, the think man sleek; to the unlovely you bring beauty. Rejoice our homestead with pleasant lowing. In our assemblies we laud your vigor.”

The cow thus represents Hindu values of selfless service, strength, dignity, and ahimsa, or non-violence. For this reason, although not all Hindus are vegetarian, they traditionally abstain from eating beef.
