Here Are Some Quotes We Have Gathered About The Benefits Of Cow Protection

For those not already familiar, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Srila Prabhupada is widely regarded as the world's foremost scholar of Vedic literature to appear in modern times. What follows are a few excerpts from what Srila Prabhupada wrote in his books about the cows:My Lord, You are the well-wisher of the cows and the brhmanas, and You are the well-wisher of the entire human society and world. (Visu Purna 1.19.65) The purport is that special mention is given in that prayer for the protection of the cows and the brhmanas. Brhmanas are the symbol of spiritual education, and cows are the symbol of the most valuable food; these two living creatures, the brhmanas and the cows, must be given all protection; that is real advancement of civilization.
"The Lord has different names according to His different activities. For example, His name is Madhusdana because He killed the demon of the name Madhu; His name is Govinda because He gives pleasure to the cows and to the senses.
Lord Krishna as Govinda is more inclined to the brhmanas and the cows, indicating thereby that human prosperity depends more on these two items, namely brahminical culture and cow protection. Lord Krishna is never satisfied where these are lacking. (Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.22)
The cows, the brhmanas and the devotees of the Lord are all objects of His special attention because they are very important factors for the general welfare of living beings. (Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.44)
The vaisyas, the members of the mercantile communities, are especially advised to protect the cows. Cow protection means increasing the milk productions, namely curd and butter. In the age of Kali, the women and the children, along with brhmanas and cows, will be grossly neglected and left unprotected. In the Bhagavad-git (18.44), it is said that the vaisyas are meant to deal in agriculture, cow protection and trade. In the age of Kali, the degraded vaisyas, the mercantile men, are engaged in supplying cows to slaughterhouses. The ksatriyas are meant to protect the citizens of the state, whereas the vaisyas are meant to protect the cows and bulls and utilize them to produce grains and milk. The cow is meant to deliver milk, and the bull is meant to produce grains. But in the age of Kali, the sdra class of men are in the posts of administrators, and the cows and bulls, or the mothers and the fathers, unprotected by the vaisyas, are subjected to the slaughterhouses organized by the sdra administrators. The cows milk is required for the sacrificial fire, and by performing sacrifices the householder can be happy.
The cows calf not only is beautiful to look at, but also gives satisfaction to the cow, and so she delivers as much milk as possible. But in the Kali-yuga, the calves are separated from the cows as early as possible for purposes which may not be mentioned in these pages of Srimad-Bhgavatam. The cow stands with tears in her eyes, the sdra milkman draws milk from the cow artificially, and when there is no milk the cow is sent to be slaughtered. These greatly sinful acts are responsible for all the troubles in present society. People do not know what they are doing in the name of economic development. The influence of Kali will keep them in the darkness of ignorance. Despite all endeavors for peace and prosperity, they must try to see the cows and the bulls happy in all respects. Foolish people do not know how one earns happiness by making the cows and bulls happy, but it is a fact by the law of nature. Let us take it from the authority of Srimad-Bhgavatam and adopt the principles for the total happiness of humanity.
"The cows had younger calves who had started sucking milk from their mothers, and some of the cows had newly given birth, but now, because of love, the cows enthusiastically showed their affection for the older calves, which had left off milking. These calves were grown up, but still the mothers wanted to feed them. Therefore Balarma was a little surprised, and He wanted to inquire from Krishna about the reason for their behavior. The mothers were actually more anxious to feed the older calves, although the new calves were present, because the older calves were expansions of Krishna." According to smrti regulation, the cow is the mother and the bull the father of the human being. The cow is the mother because just as one sucks the breast of one’s mother, human society takes cows milk. Similarly, the bull is the father of human society because the father earns for the children just as the bull tills the ground to produce food grains. Human society will kill its spirit of life by killing the father and the mother. It is mentioned herein that the beautiful cows and bulls were of various checkered colors; red, black, green, yellow, ash, etc. And because of their colors and healthy smiling features, the atmosphere was enlivening.
